What would you do if you adopted a dog, formed a bond with it, and then received a message from a stranger saying that your beloved fur baby was actually theirs? Well, that's exactly what happened to Reddit user u/xoPebbles and her boyfriend.
The young woman shared the story in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit. She explained that she and her boyfriend adopted their dog around seven months ago.
Out of nowhere, OP received a message on Facebook from someone claiming that the dog was their dog which was stolen from them. They said they paid thousands of dollars for the dog only to have him stolen, and they wanted to come and see him.
But, understandably, OP felt very uneasy about the whole thing. When she and her boyfriend adopted the dog, the shelter told them they had found him as a stray.
The shelter did everything by the rules, holding him for seven days before sending him to a foster home. His owners would have had every opportunity to find him if they wanted to.
OP went to meet the dog one month after he was listed for adoption; she then filled out the paperwork and took him home. She also mentioned that when the dog was originally posted for adoption on Facebook, someone tagged this person, asking if it was their dog, but they never replied until seven months later.
Ever since the person has been blowing up OP's phone and insisting that they should be allowed to come and see the dog for closure. But OP says she doesn't feel comfortable with the idea at all because their story simply doesn't add up.
The Redditor says she feels conflicted because a part of her feels sorry for these people, but the other part just doesn't trust them. Keep scrolling to see how people reacted.

It's hard to know what the right thing to do here is. After all, we live in a dangerous world, and you never truly know a person's motives.
