Every once in a while, it’s good to have a little reassurance that things will be okay. An artist by the name of Hector Janse van Rensburg, also known as Sh*itty Watercolor, conveys these delicate reminders through an amazing four-board comic.

In his comics, Van Rensburg is accompanied by a little gray cat who offers to relieve words that are certain to calm anybody’s restless mind. The feline achieves this by reminding us that we’re human and giving our all to make it through every day.

The artist based the gray cat on his own feline, Ona, who died a long time back. He says that the cat was with him for the most part of his life and was a little gray bit of energy that followed him everywhere he went.

“The comics are primarily about offering a new perspective on the negative mindsets that people find themselves in, and my cat was the perfect thing to articulate that new perspective,” he added. In the comics, Van Rensburg’s character is often stressed over the future or feeling down to the point where it is difficult to get up from bed.

But, as he communicates his sadness to Ona, the cat counters his feelings by offering another method for reviewing what is happening. So keep scrolling and prepare to be soothed...

The impact of Van Rensburg’s comics has been significant. The artist explains that since he started the series, he has “had so many messages from people about how they’ve helped them, or how they’ve sent the comics to people close to them, and it has opened up a dialogue with them about things they struggle with, which is really great.”

There are even a few gratitudes thrown in the blend, which are in the form of “cats are great” comics. But for the most part, the artist tries to “make them such that the cat’s voice could be the voice of a friend, or your own internal voice… just nice comforting words from someone who will stick by you.”
