Gas Station Employee Shares How He Got A "Red Card" After Not IDing A Customer Buying Alcohol, Others Share Their Experiences

Even if you've never worked at a gas station then you probably still know about how they can get into trouble for selling alcohol without IDing the customer. This isn't just for gas stations but also for other stores as well, however, gas stations are notorious for sending in secret shoppers to test this.

If you sell alcohol to a minor is a misdemeanor that can result in a fine of $4,000, jail time, and or a suspended license. Ultimately it's kind of a big deal especially if you work in a gas station since there are always chances that you'll be secret-shopped by someone under 21 who is trying to catch you off guard.

This can be a little difficult because a lot of people go off looks and typically when choosing to ID or not, but essentially this isn't how you're supposed to do that and this is why they get red-carded. "Red cards" are basically a slip that tells you that you failed the secret shopper and if you get three of these cards then you'll be terminated.

This TikToker went on to explain his situation on how he got a red card after not IDing a woman that looked well over 30. Let's dive in and see the original TikTok and hear more about what he had to say.

A 7-Eleven worker goes to TikTok to explain how the red card and green card systems work when secret shoppers come in to test them for ID verification. Ultimately whether you're intentionally selling to a minor or not, you'll still get red-carded if it turns out that you did so.

It's basically a penalty system for gas station workers.

He explains how she looked over 30 years old and he got red carded from her because she was not and he did not ID her. He basically ends by saying that everyone from now on will get ID'd because he doesn't want to lose his job.

Once you receive three of these red cards you will be terminated. He explains that if he had asked for her ID that he would've gotten a green card that signified that he passed the test.

People came to the comments to laugh a little bit at how he reacted to this happening to him.

Some people even said their own experiences when it came to them being a secret shopper and having to give out red cards.

This is just too funny and we can imagine that some secret shoppers are just too excited for you to pass.

It probably depends on the state and the laws on how bad of a crime selling to a minor is.

Now we know why they card people all the time even if you clearly look old enough. You just never know.

People are definitely going to look at him crazy, but they have to know that's part of their job.

After hearing this TikTok and hearing about red cards and green cards I think we can all understand a bit more about why people get ID'd all the time and what happens if they don't. I think a lot of us wouldn't want to work at a gas station after finding out that you can be secret-shopped and fired if you don't ask for an ID.
