"I was very mindful that usually when I did my filming, I would be controlling."
When Netflix's 'Beckham' dropped in October 2023, the world fell in love with David and Victoria Beckham in a whole new way. The docuseries chronicles the lives of Posh and Becks in a candid way that we've never seen before.
Victoria recently described the release of 'Beckham' as "quite liberating," and she says it was a learning curve for her in how to let go of always being in control. "I was very mindful that usually when I did my filming, I would be controlling," she said.
"But this was very much about David, so I took the approach of, 'I'm just going to be easy-going here.'"
The four-part series showcases the highs and lows of the Beckhams' 24-year marriage. Particularly the difficulties surrounding infidelity rumors after two models claimed to have had affairs with David.
"It was the most unhappy I have ever been in my entire life," Victoria recalled. While filming the docuseries, David became emotional remembering how his alleged cheating affected his wife.
"Victoria is everything to me," he said. "To see her hurt was incredibly difficult, but we're fighters."
"And what we had was worth fighting for," David explained. At the time, David was playing for Real Madrid, and Victoria had moved to Spain to be with her husband.
"Up until Madrid, sometimes it felt like us against everybody else, but we were together, we were connected, we had each other," Victoria said. "But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel like we had each other either."
"And that's sad," she continued. "I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it was and how it affected me."
"It was the hardest period of our marriage because it felt like the world was against us,” Victoria said. "Here’s the thing - we were against each other if I’m being completely honest."
But, while the couple has weathered their fair share of trials, they have come through to the other side stronger than ever. The couple often share candid glimpses of their relationship via social media with playful and sweet posts.
Victoria says releasing the docuseries seems to have made them more approachable which she enjoys. "People come up and they're like, 'We love the documentary,'" she said.
"Let me tell you, they used to be scared to approach," she continued. The series has certainly made Victoria and David more relatable to their fans than ever before.
The couple has four children together - Brooklyn, 24, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 18, and Harper, 12. We love to see their beautiful family thrive!
