For all my infamous Harry Potter lovers out there, this article is for you specifically. However, if you’re not someone who loves Harry Potter, you’ll probably still recognize some of these actors who have passed away since being in Harry Potter.

This set of movies came out years ago and there have been a ton of fans that have loved this movie series since then. With this said, there are quite a few actors that have passed away since being in the movie.

In fact, today we are going to look at twenty five actors that have passed away from the Happy Potter series. This article might be a little sad but reminiscing on these amazing roles is exactly what they would’ve wanted us to do.

After learning that all these people are gone, we appreciate those who are left and those who we’ve been able to see in other roles. People typically have a lot of connection to their favorite actors, and in this case, Harry Potter fans are upset about many of these deaths.

Let’s take a look and see what actors have passed away since the debut of the Harry Potter films. Whether you’re a Harry Potter fan or not, you are sure to enjoy looking back at all these actors.

Richard Harris-Albus Dumbledore (1930-2002)

Harris was the first death of the series when he passed away in 2002.

Robert Knox- Marcus Belby (1989-2008)

Knox played Marcus Belby in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince prior to his death. He was stabbed to death after stepping in to protect his brother during a fight.

Michael Gambon-Albus Dumbledore (1940-2023)

Gambon played Dumbledore from the third film until the last one. He also starred in the King’s Speech.

Elizabeth Spriggs-The Fat Lady (1929-2008)

Spriggs was known for playing The Fat Lady which was in a living portrait in the movie. She was also a successful Shakespearean theatre actor who performed in many different performances.

Timothy Bateson-Kreacher (1926-2009)

Kreacher was voiced by Timothy Bateson and worked as the voice in Harry Potter and the Order off the Phoenix which was his last film before passing away.

Jimmy Gardner-Ernie Prang (1914-2010)

Gardner was a WWII veteran who played the Knight Bus driver in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He worked as an air gunner in the Royal Air Force and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal.

Alfred Burke-Armando Dippet (1918-2011)

Burke died at the age of ninety-two and he was known for his role in Harry Potter and his role in the British TV drama Public Eye.

Eric Skyes-Frank Bryce (1923-2012)

Skyes played in the Harry Potter movies as their garnered and became the prime suspect for the family’s murder.

Richard Griffith-Vernon Dursley (1947-2013)

Griffiths played Harry’s uncle Vernon and he was also well known for his roles in The History Boys and Chariots of Fire. He died at sixty five following heart surgery.

Peter Cartwright-Elphias Doge (1935-2013)

He played in the Harry Potter movies before his death in 2013 and was then replaced by actor David Ryall.

Roger Lloyd Pack-Barry Crouch Senior (1944-2014)

Pack played a Ministry of Magic as the official Barry Crouch Senior. He was also known for his roles in Only Fools and Horses.

He died at the age of sixty-nine of pancreatic cancer.

Dave Legeno-Fenir Greyback (1963-2014)

Legeno played an actor that was a werewolf and Death Eater that attacked unsuspecting children. After he starred in three Harry Potter films, he was found dead in Death Valley, California.

Derek Deadman-Tom from the Leaky Couldron (1940-2014)

Deadman played Tom from The Leaky Couldron. With his four decades of experience he brought a lot to the movie, but sadly died from diabetes.

David Ryall-Elphias Doge (1935-2014)

Ryall replaced Peter Cartwright and starred in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. He passed away on Christmas in 2014.

Alan Rickman-Severus Snape (1946-2016)

Severus Snape was an iconic character in Harry Potter and his death came as a shock to many. He died of terminal cancer that he didn’t tell anyone about.

Terence Baylor- The Bloody Baron (1930-2016)

Baylor played as The Bloody Baron, which was a ghost at Hogwarts that was formerly a wizard.

Hazel Douglas- Bathilda Bagshot (1923-2016)

Hazel Douglas played in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 as a magical historian.

John Hurt- Garrick Ollivander (1940-2017)

John Hurt played the wand maker in Harry Potter named Garrick Olivander. He has been a celebrated actors who has worked for over fifty years in the industry.

Sam Beazley - Professor Everard (1916-2017)

He featured as the painting of Professor Everard in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He died in 2017 at the age of 101.

Robert Hardy- Cornelius Fudge (1915-2017)

Hardy worked in theatre, film, and television his whole career. He played Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge in Harry Potter.

We’re Troyer - Griphook (1969-2018)

Verne Troyer was most known for playing Mini Me in the Austin Powers film lineup. However, he also played Griphook in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Paul Ritter- Eldred Worley (1966-2021)

Paul Ritter played a wizard and writer named Eldred Worley in Harry Potter. Ritter died in 2021 due to a brain tumor.

Helen McCroy - Narcissa Malfoy (1968-2021)

Cory played Malfoy in the Harry Potter series and was known for her role as Polly in Peaky Blinders as well.

Robbie Coltrane - Ruben’s Hagrid (1950-2022)

Coltrane played the famous Harding, who was the groundskeeper in Harry Potter. He was a legendary Scottish actor that many people loved and his death caused mourn across the globe.

Leslie Phillips - The Sorting Hat (1924-2022)

Leslie Phillips as known for voicing The Sorting Hat in the Harry Potter series but he also was well known in the Carry On films. He died at the age of 98 in November 2022.

These amazing Harry Potter actors all did a fantastic job in the series before their passing. That doesn’t make it any easier to heat that they are gone, but at least there is an amazing tribute to them through movie and television that can keep their legacy living on.
