Kelsey Panda was taking a lunch break when she felt someone is watching her. When she paid some attention to her surroundings, she realized there are eight tiny eyes on the trunk of the tree nearby.
“[I] went to lean my hand on the tree but saw something move, so I had a closer look and saw this little guy chilling on the tree trunk,” Panda shared.
It was a Lichen Huntsman spider and it was camouflaged very well with the tree trunk that it was impossible to identify it. The spider was 2.5 inches long.
The texture and the appearance of the spider were almost exactly like that of the lichen that was growing on the tree. It looks crusty like a leaf.
“The pattern was so beautiful it really was mesmerizing,” Panda told.
It was a wonderful surprise for Panda to find a companion for lunch.
She said, “I’ve lived in Cairns, Queensland, most of my life and haven't seen a spider quite like it before. But I suppose we can see why.”
She took some pictures of the spider to capture the moment.
KELSEY PANDACan you spot him in the picture?
Huntsman spiders are known for their ability to hunt their prey without casting a web. They feed on all sorts of insects.
For this very reason, they are found extremely helpful in eradicating pests from a garden.
KELSEY PANDAIf they are not provoked, they do not bite anyone.
Therefore, they are not considered dangerous. Even if anyone is bitten by a huntsman spider the only side effect the victim will feel are slight nausea, inflammation, and some pain.
Panda and the spider, both were pretty comfortable in each other's company. Panda explains:
“It was just a nice little lunchtime bonus for me. Its little eyes were watching me while I took the photo, then just remained where it was until I left.”
