The loss of a loved one inflicts incomparable pain, especially when that person is your soul mate. So, it's understandable that we tend to do everything we can to hold onto every reminder possible that makes us feel connected to the one we've lost.

Reddit user u/bridgetlongons recently posted in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit about her experience losing her husband. The OP explained that her beloved husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January 2019, and in October of that same year, he sadly passed away.

The OP says her hubby always remained positive, and shortly after his diagnosis, he decided to write letters for their daughters, Mia and Imogen, to open on significant days in their lives. Understandably, it was an incredibly difficult time for the family, and they have each struggled to come to terms with the loss.

When Mia got married, it was the OP's job to pass on the letter her dad had written for her special day. However, when the wedding day came around, the OP couldn't bring herself to hand over the letter.

She wanted to keep it for herself as it had her husband's handwriting on it and made her feel like he was present. The OP couldn't bear the thought of giving the letter up.

Fast forward to when Mia and her husband were moving out (they had been living with the OP since they got married), Mia was looking for all of her important documents to take with her when she stumbled across the letter from her dad. She recognized his handwriting immediately and saw that it was addressed to her.

Mia read the letter and broke down in tears. She was devastated that her mother had kept it from her, and she screamed at the OP for being so selfish.

Both of the OP's daughters called her an a**hole, so now she is wondering if they're right. Keep scrolling to see how people reacted.

Of course, the OP's daughter was hurt that her mom had kept the letter from her. Now she's wondering if she's the a**hole here.

What's your take on this situation? Do you think the OP was wrong for withholding the letter from Mia, or is it understandable that she wanted to keep it for herself?
