Deaf Man Adopts Adorable Deaf Puppy And Teaches Him Sign Language

We all know dogs are a mans best friend, but sometimes you hear of a human and doggy friendship that is just that little bit extra special. This story is definitely one of them.

31-year-old, Nick Abbott, is a deaf man who lives in Maine. He recently decided to adopt Emerson, a beautiful rescue puppy who also happens to be deaf.

Emerson had a rough start to life, being rescued from a shelter in Florida at just six-weeks-old, he was very unwell. Emerson had the canine parvovirus and had suffered seizures. After pulling through, rescue staff realized Emerson had been left with severe hearing difficulties.

“He doesn’t let it bother him at all, though. He’s a typical puppy,” Lindsay Powers of NFR Maine told Good Morning America.

Lindsay said that Emerson was having a tough time finding a forever home, and perhaps potential adopters were being put off by his deafness.

But then Nick came along, and the two shared a special bond right away.

"Right off the bat he said, 'I'm deaf also, and I feel like we'd have a good connection,'" Lindsay recalled.

She processed Nick's application straight away, and he and Emerson have been inseparable ever since.

Nick has even been teaching Emerson the sign language for 'sit', 'lay down' and 'come'.

Nick's mom says he and Emerson were "meant for each other."
