There will undoubtedly be times when you must leave your child home alone, whether it's due to a snow day, an unforeseen work meeting, or a canceled childcare plan. When parents initially leave their children unsupervised, it's normal for them to feel anxious.

But with a little preparation and a few practice runs, you can feel ready and assured. If managed appropriately, children can benefit from being left alone at home as they would develop a sense of independence and self-worth.

Generally speaking, it is not a good idea to leave children under the age of ten alone at home. Although each child is unique, most young children lack the maturity and abilities necessary to handle an emergency on their own at that age.

Yet, OP's sister thought it wise to leave their 8-year-old niece all by herself. The OP and her two younger sisters have all been pretty close.

They had done everything together when they were younger, and they'd babysat her child in the past for little money. The OP left her daughter with them to go do some errands.

When she finished with everything, she started heading back to her parents's house, only to get a call from one of her sisters telling her to come pick up her child. The OP got there to see her daughter crying, and then her parents told her what really happened.

No doubt, OP's sisters acted in a risky, careless, and reckless manner, so she shouldn't entrust them with watching her child in the future. But cutting contact with them is a bit severe, though as many Redditors believed that the OP can still maintain the relationship; just one in which she's not dependent on them for child care.
