It's no surprise that drugs are a problem and becoming more popular in the States, but animals getting ahold of them wasn't exactly something that a lot of us were anticipating. Now, this might sound crazy, but as we dive into some of the experiments being held about this, you'll notice that it really isn't that crazy.

Cocaine can often be found dumped off into the ocean and in areas where marine life does live and are often around. None of us may have thought that these animals would be interested in this stuff, but it turns out that there actually might be an issue to address when it comes to these drugs ending up in the ocean.

Shark Week is actually said to cover some information on these "Cocaine sharks" and let us know just how much of a threat or problem this could be. If you've been on the internet, then you've probably seen something about this before as people start talking, but we are here to cover the story and give you the inside scoop on these sharks and what's going on.

So if you're interested in hearing more about these cocaine sharks and whether or not they are real or a threat, then keep on reading to get the full details.

It's a discussed phenomenon that these sharks are getting in contact with cocaine being dumped off the coast.

During this year's Shark Week, researcher Tom Hird is going off into the waters to test his theory on whether or not this could actually be happening and what the result could be. Tom joins another scientist to test theories by doing multiple experiments to see if and how these sharks might be ingesting cocaine.

Florida Keys is where all the talk started of the potential of sharks getting into drugs dumped off the coast.

It's said that the drugs are a huge problem in the Kyes and over 140 pounds of it washed up in the Lower Keys this year. There have also been sightings of sharks just acting really odd.

Some people spotted hammerhead sharks swimming weirdly and crookedly, as well as other sharks who seemed to be stalking things that just weren't there. This is when Hird decided to do a real experiment and see if this was a possibility.

He threw off bricks of simulated drugs, which were actually just lots of fish powder, and then threw them into the water to see how the sharks would react. To their surprise, they went right for them and took a huge chunk out.

This does show just how easily this scenario could occur in real life and with real narcotics.

This is such an interesting concept. This doesn't confirm the theory, but it goes to show that it could be a problem and that there is the potential to put animals in danger by doing this.

Stay tuned for Shark Week to see all of the experiments held and what the final verdict will be on the Cocaine Sharks.
