Rubble, The Oldest Living Cat In The World, Turns 30

According to record books, the oldest cat ever in existence lived approximately 38 years and 3 days. Her name was Creme Puff, and she lived with her owner Jake Perry in Austin, Texas, USA from August 3, 1967, to August 6, 2005. Since then, others have held the tile of "oldest cat alive," like Scooter, a Siamese from Mansfield, Texas. He was given the title at the age of 30 by the Guinness Book of World Records in April 2016, however, sadly passed away quite shortly thereafter.

Today we're going to meet Rubble, whose status is unconfirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records, but that isn't about to stop us from celebrating such a monumental milestone as a cat's 30th birthday, it's too exciting to ignore!

Old but Gold

Meet Rubble, quite possibly the oldest living cat in the world today! Rubble is a long-haired ginger-and-white kitty living in the U.K with his owner Michele Foster. Michele recently was excited to celebrate Rubble's 30th birthday in Exeter, Denton.

In May of 1988, Foster got Rubble as a present on her 20th birthday. In an interview with Bored Panda, she said:

He was part of a litter of cats that my sister’s friend had, and I had just left home. I was lonely living on my own so got him in as a kitten. He is very loyal. We used to live in London and moved around a lot.

The tiny kitten proved truly loyal over the years.

And Michele was just as loyal to sweet Rubble as Rubble was to her.

Speaking on his status as a potential official record holder, Michele remains unconcerned:

He’s a lovely cat, although he has got a little grumpy in his old age,” stated Foster. “He has plenty of life left in him yet, but I don’t think we will go down the Guinness World Record route as I am not sure he would like lots of people coming to see him or a fuss being made out of him.

She doesn't think Rubble would particularly enjoy the fuss and hullabaloo that would come with becoming an official world record holder:

He is old now and would not like too much attention or be hassled. We would prefer if he was just left to live out his old age in peace.

As part of his birthday celebration, Rubble visited his veterinarian.

At City Vets in the UK, Rubble is seen for his high-blood pressure management. But for his birthday, the staff had something special in mind. Shaun Moore, City Vets said:

We recently had this amazing cat in for a check up and to celebrate his 30th birthday. Rubble is quite likely to be the oldest cat in the UK and is still going strong. He is on medication for his blood pressure but apart from that, he is in remarkably good health.

Michele said:

He enjoyed a free check up, some Whiskas Catmilk and Felix pouches, and less appreciated a free supply of medication for the next month as his birthday present from City Vets.

Michele also offered some tender advice:

If you care about something and someone and really love them, that goes a long way. I have always treated him like a child – I don’t have any children and had another cat called Meg – who passed at the age of 25. If you care about something, no matter what it is, it does last.
