There’s nothing quite as heartwarming as a rescue story, especially when it involves an orphaned kitten finding solace in an unexpected place. Meet Puppy, a chubby little kitten who was found abandoned by his mother at less than ten days old.

His story begins when he is discovered all alone after his mom has moved her other kittens, leaving him behind. After waiting for 12 long hours to see if she would return, rescuers knew it was time to step in.

Puppy, already a healthy weight for his age, was lucky to have been found in time, as his well-being relied on immediate intervention.

He was brought to Heidi, an experienced foster mom in New York City known for her work with kittens at Heidi Wrangles Cats. To help Puppy feel less alone, Heidi introduced him to a plush mama cat with a heartbeat simulator, a comfort object designed to mimic the warmth and feel of a real cat.

This ingenious little gadget, known as the Calmeroos Cat, played a vital role in Puppy’s early days. For orphaned kittens like Puppy, such comfort can make all the difference, providing the soothing heartbeat and warmth they desperately crave.

Finding Comfort with a Plush Mama

Kittens instinctively seek out their mothers, and being separated can lead to severe anxiety and behavioral issues. Puppy’s rescuers knew that without his mom, he needed something that could at least mimic the warmth and presence of a mother cat.

That’s when Heidi introduced the Calmeroos Cat—a soft, plush toy with a heartbeat simulator and heat pack that provides the comfort of a living, breathing companion.

From the moment it was introduced, Puppy snuggled under the plush cat like it was his real mom.

Heidi shared the adorable sight on her TikTok and Instagram pages, where Puppy’s story quickly captured hearts.

“A fun fact about Puppy is that his favorite place in the whole world is underneath his fake mommy,” Heidi shared. The plush mama provided the comfort Puppy needed, helping him to sleep peacefully and grow strong.

Thriving Against the Odds

While Puppy had his plush mama for comfort, Heidi took on the role of his human caretaker. Despite the challenges of being isolated for safety, Puppy thrived, gaining an impressive 30 grams per day.

Yet, fostering isn’t without its difficulties. Puppy soon developed an upper respiratory infection, a common issue in young kittens, and required immediate antibiotics and steam treatments.

Heidi turned his carrier into a mini steam room using a nebulizer to help clear his congestion—a small but essential step in Puppy’s recovery.

Through all his ups and downs, Puppy proved to be a little trooper. He overcame his infection after five days of treatment and continued to grow stronger.

Finally, he made his first kitten friends and learned how to play, setting him on the path to a well-adjusted, happy life. Today, Puppy—now named Ollie—lives with his big brother Baxter in NYC, where he continues to thrive.

His story is a heartwarming reminder that with a little love and creativity, even the smallest and most vulnerable creatures can overcome the toughest of starts.
