Golden Retriever Dog Becomes The Best Companion For This Lonely Duck

In some places, dogs and ducks are mortal enemies. In happier places, dogs and ducks are the best of friends.

Evan Hastings’ dog McGee has an unusual friend – a duck who lives in a pond behind their house. This adorable 6-year-old dog is very kind-hearted and doesn’t mind that his friend can get a bit clingy sometimes.

“He’s a wonderful friendly dog with not a mean bone in his body,” Hastings says of his dog. “I think the duck just got lonely and started harassing McGee, and then they became best buddies.”

Daffy the duck spends most of his days enjoying the sun with McGee. The duck is continuously attempting to get McGee’s attention, and the dog is exceptionally patient with him. The sweet dog shares his food with Daffy, and they even eat from the same dish.

“During the day, McGee will be laying in the grass, and the duck will be laying on his back also,” Hastings says. “I think McGee gets annoyed after a while because the duck is nonstop pecking at him for some reason.”

The cute duck rarely leaves McGee's side, and the adorable duo spends hours swimming together. Daffy adores to make jumps into the pond, swim around, then ride McGee's back out of the water. The dog seems to enjoy "retrieving" Daffy on his back very much.

“When they swim together the duck is always trying to get on his back,” Hastings says. “Sometimes when he’s up there, he’ll hold his wings straight out — it’s hilarious.”But one thing Daffy doesn’t appreciate is when Hasting’s other pups try to join them.

“I have two beagle dogs and let them loose in the evenings and the duck actually chases them back to the kennel,” Hastings says. “For some reason, the duck doesn’t want the beagles around McGee — maybe so he can have him all to himself.”
