Meet Duke, an easy-going dog who loves the great outdoors, enjoyable fetch sessions, and riding the Wampler family's car with his favourite plushie.
Little did Duke's family know that his next ride won't be in their car. The huge Labrador Retriever would ride in a dust devil instead.
This jaw-dropping flight, which was caught on their neighbour's camera, took place when Duke was playing with his brothers and sisters outside their Virginia home. Although it was windy that day, the gust was not strong enough to stop them from having fun outside. What happened next was not something that anyone would expect.
Brittany Wampler, Duke's mom, was working at the time of the incident.
Duke went for a ride in a tornado!
She did not believe what her kids reported at first, until she saw the video.
BRITTANY WAMPLERThe moment was captured by their neighbour's security camera. A strong dust devil lifted Duke and spun him around a few times before he fell back on the ground. Wampler could not believe what she just saw.
Luckily, the 70-pound dog did not sustain any injuries. But he was shaken because of the incident.
They decided to head back inside and wait for the wind to calm down.
Duke was supported by the other family's Lab, Piece, after the incident. And while he has always been a beloved member of the Wamplers, the run-in with the whirlwind has elevated the family's love and admiration for him.
The Wampler family coins a new nickname for him: Duke the Flying Dog. The kids even joke about getting him a cape. But according to Duke's mom, she's fine with Duke never taking flight again.
