Airport Reportedly Sets A Time Limit For Goodbye Hugs For Travelers

An airport overseas has put a restriction that has gotten a lot of travelers pretty upset. When traveling, especially if someone is going back home after visiting, it's the last touchpoint where they will see their friends and family in the current country.

A lot of time this means that travelers are taking extra time saying goodbye and just having these last moments before the person takes off back home. This often includes a lot of goodbyes and hugs especially if the person is going pretty far and it can at times be a pretty emotional moment.

With this said, an airport overseas has put a time limit on how long these goodbye hugs can last and they are upsetting a lot of people by doing so. This is a rule that a lot of people have spoken out about and it's upsetting because a lot of people use the airport as their last little hurrah before having to go back home to another place away from their friends and family that they were visiting.

If you're interested in hearing more about this rule and what exactly is going on with it and where it's happening at then keep on reading as we give you all of the details here.

As you can see here they have a sign plain as day explaining their limit on goodbye hugs.

In an airport in New Zealand, the Dunedin airport has a sign in their building that says "max hug time three minutes" in order to "keep things moving smoothly" according to the airport CEO Dan De Bono. But this rule has upset many travelers as they feel it is not right for them to put a time limit on something as precious as this.

It also says that "for fonder farewells please us the car park" and essentially states that they need to say goodbye in the parking lot instead if they plan to be there longer than the three minute max time.

Some travelers went to social media to speak out about this new rule.

"Wow, the government just wants to control everything. Even our hugs," one user posted on X.

"Once Big Government takes control, it will never run out of things it wants to control," someone else said.

"LOL. Is there anything Europeans won’t regulate," one user commented.

"We were accused of breaching basic human rights and how dare we limit how long someone can have a hug for," said De Bono.

Some people actually applauded the rule or made jokes.

"I’d make it 30 seconds," said one man on X.

"I mean.... a 3 minute hug is just uncomfortable soooo," another person added.

"it's meant to ensure everyone gets their moment without causing delays. A quick hug can still be heartfelt," added another.

De Bono said that the time limit is "plenty of time to pull up, say farewell to your loved ones, and move on."

It's pretty split on what people had to say about this new rule and it seems that some people support it and some people don't. It's interesting but realistically this is probably enough time to give a hug and say goodbye.

Getting most of your goodbyes and any other affection out in the parking lot is probably a smarter move anyway.
