For a good number of people, Easter eggs are sweet treats that come around only once a year to satisfy their cravings. But for those profoundly deep in film culture, easter eggs are something else entirely.
They are little goodies of information and references that are hidden in plain sight but are an ultimate reward for the extremely observant viewer. Do you still have a clue as to what we’re referring to?
Believe me when I say that there are chances you’ve coincidentally found a goldmine without even realizing it. Hold on and find out then.
To make it simpler, film easter eggs are well-hidden references, inside jokes, or pieces of information relevant to the story’s development that are subtly integrated into the on-screen activities. What’s more, these are definitely not new things.
Easter eggs have appeared in the media since the start of movies. From unpretentious digs at political systems or references to the producers’ significant impacts, these secret details can play various job roles.
Take Toy Story, for instance, a magazine in it shows the date “January 12, 1957.” Ordinarily, viewers will overlook this detail, but a sharp eye will pick it up and ask why that date?
Then you find out that the date is also the date that one of the directors of Toy Story, John Lasseter, was born. There’s more to find out as we’ve gathered some well-hidden eggs that you just might have missed.
1. The movie, Sid's carpet
In the very first Toy Story movie, there's a scene where Woody and Buzz are seen escaping Sid's room. Take a look at the carpet there.
Yup, it happens to be similar to the carpet in The Overlook Hotel from The Shining movie.
Disney Pixar/Warner Bros.2. The number 237 movie
Another Easter egg to get a hold of is from The Shining movie. Notice that the number "237" appears so many times all through the Toy Story franchise.
Well, 237 is actually the room number of the haunted room in The Shining movie.
Disney Pixar3. And here we have Mickey Mouse
Check out the watch on the wall, you can see that it has Mickey Mouse on it in the first Toy Story movie. This actually serves as one of the numerous Mickeys that are hidden all through the franchise.
Disney Pixar4. The gas station movie
The gas station is featured in Toy Story and it is the name of a racing team in the movie Cars, which surprisingly, was released many years after.
Disney Pixar5. The Lightning McQueen t-shirt
If you watch closely in Toy Story 3, one of the daycare kids can be seen putting on a Lightening McQueen t-shirt and it also has his number 95 written on it.
Disney Pixar6. Here, we have the movie, A Bug's Life
The same bugs from A Bug's Life can be seen behind Buzz in the Toy Story 2.
Disney Pixar7. Finally, we have John Lasseter
There's a certain magazine in Toy Story which shows this particular date 'January 12, 1957' and it can be seen at the bottom left corner. This happens to also be the date that John Lasseter was born and he is one of the directors of Toy Story.
Disney PixarThese hidden elements are made in a way that even the sharpest of eyes won’t catch onto them. This simply means that you need to watch a scene again and again to get hold of the full idea.
