One super, super hot day in Texas, Plano Animal Shelter received a call about a kitten stuck in a storm drain. Mary, a volunteer for PAS got there as fast as she could to save the tiny kitten.
Upon arrival, she discovered the kitten was in a deep tunnel. She had no idea how she got herself there, but knew she wouldn't be getting out of there all by herself. The first thing Mary did was try to reassure the scared and distraught kitten, this went a long way into making her comfortable with Mary.
While trying to get her out of the tunnel since she couldn't get into the tunnel herself, she had to be resourceful. It was proving difficult to get the kitten out safely.
Mary couldn't see her at times and had to use her phone, in her words, "Because I needed to see what I was doing, I had to pull my phone back…" She literally had her eyes in her hand.
Another adorable personality in this whole scenario is Mary's dog, Sawyer. Even though he doesn't like having a lot of visitors, he usually warmed up to cats and has a soft spot for kittens.
He instantly fell in love with the rescued kitten and the two furry pets developed a relationship. Sawyer obviously knew how small she was and it's shown in the manner he protected her, cared for her and played with her.
Not long after, Pennywise was adopted! Mary was happy, although it was hard to see her newly found friend go.
It was a thing of joy for all animal rescuers at Plano Animal Shelter to see her in safe hands.

Plano Animal ShelterShe Was Limp When She Was Removed From The Deep Tunnel.
When she got her out, she gave her water to drink because she looked limp and weak. Mary shared:
“She was just, like, limp. I started, kind of, pouring water in her mouth and she was lapping it up like a dog. Which I’d never seen a cat do. She came to, and that’s when I could breathe again. The whole team was in action. We got fluids in her. She instantly was perking up. It was just a relief”.

She was taken to the animal shelter, fed and the team got fluids into her. It was a relief when she was perking up in no time.

Mary didn't want to see her go and decided to foster her for the meantime. It was great to see Sawyer, Mary's dog, take a liking to the kitten.
He played with her and always wanted to know where she was.
"They have a really sweet relationship. He kinda nursed her in his own little way. For being a little 2-pound kitten, she held her own around my 50-pound dog. It made sense that she held her own in that tunnel. She just has a lot of gusto."
