Resentment bubbled up and spilled over Reddit after a 39-year-old homeowner felt her sister's family took advantage of her. OP lives in a 4-bedroom, 1-bathroom house with her two kids and her sister.

She opened her home to their other sister and three kids after they went through a rough patch. They were also affected by the rise in rental prices.

Her sister and her kids occupy two of the bedrooms. OP's children have been sharing the primary bedroom with her.

Her sister's only financial obligation to their shared household was to pay for half of the rent. OP doesn't ask her to contribute to their utilities.

OP also pays for most of their groceries, while her sister mostly buys junk food that only she and her kids enjoy. Her sister looks after OP's children three nights a week from 6 to 11 p.m. when OP is at work.

In return, OP drops off the kids at school every morning and takes them home in the afternoon during her days off. Her sister complained about babysitting OP's kids, so OP had to hire a babysitter.

Her sister's partner has also been staying over frequently. He also uses OP's car and fails to fill up the tank when he returns it.

OP tried to broach the subject of her sister paying for her share of the utilities. She backed down when it caused an argument.

However, her resentment built. It was unfair that her sister's family took up most of the space in her house, while she shared the least.

Her sister got complacent because she knew OP wouldn't kick her out of the house while her children were with her. OP is growing tired of the unbalanced arrangement.

Her sister and her partner have more income than OP. Yet, she somehow became the breadwinner of an ungrateful, freeloading family.

It's time for a grown-up talk. OP can't go broke supporting her freeloading sister and her partner.

He also shouldn't feel so comfortable in OP's house that he thinks her car is for him to use whenever he feels like it.

If the living situation is too stressful for OP and her kids, it might be time for their "visitors" to vacate the premises.

This approach would definitely cause the least amount of stress for OP.

Frankly, her sister is just using her. She had enough time to look for an appropriate apartment for herself and her kids.

OP needs to shine that spine of hers because their house is not a peaceful place for her and her children.

If her sister can't agree to OP's terms, or if she throws a fit, it's time to start the eviction process.

OP needs to refocus and realize that her children's safety and comfort are more important than the feelings of her mooch of a sister.

Her sister is an adult. She can find her footing somewhere else.

OP's children rely on her to advocate for them and do what's best for their family.
