“My well-being is more important than some tradition!”

One of the perks of large families is the fun-filled vacations featuring the entire extended clan. However, this could also give rise to a plot twist or two.

Our narrator’s (Original Poster’s) in-laws had a long-running tradition of whisking everyone away to a winter wonderland. It was all snowy slopes and cozy cabins because this merry band of ski enthusiasts was always eager to hit the slopes.

OP, not quite a fan of skiing or snowboarding, opted for the more chill activities like tubing or spa lounging. But come 2022, OP was pregnant, so she couldn’t even indulge in the simple joys of tubing.

While the in-laws and the rest hit the slopes, OP found herself stuck in a non-baby-proofed room with her pint-sized squad of three. It wasn’t exactly the ideal vacation scenario, but she pulled through for the sake of tradition.

Now, this year, OP was pregnant once again—with triplets. She wasn’t about to repeat old mistakes, so she opted out of the year’s escapade, citing her reasons—she really couldn’t handle babysitting three toddlers in a non-baby-proofed room coupled with pregnancy stress.

You’d think this was enough to garner understanding, but all hell broke loose instead. OP Suddenly became Public Enemy Number One—she was accused of single-handedly shattering their sacred tradition, and her mother-in-law even let the tears flow freely.

OP’s husband defended her as best as he could, but it wasn’t quite enough. His parents still insisted the right thing to do would’ve been to watch the kids in their hotel room anyway.

Technically, she could’ve done that. Was she indeed the villain here?

Redditors unanimously declared that OP isn’t the AH. Some even questioned why her husband didn't take the toddlers with him to allow her have a much-needed breather at home by herself—growing humans is no small feat, after all.

It’s high time the in-laws cut OP some slack and show a little more compassion. After all, family vacations should be about supporting each other, not tearing each other down.
