Ferrets make great pets, and they are actually common household animals all over the United States. They are as curious as cats and as friendly as dogs—a great option for those who want an animal companion that has a little bit of both.
They are most certainly not for everyone, though (just like how there are cat persons and dog persons), but they are truly the best pets as long as they are with the right owner; one who knows how to truly take care of them. They can bond with humans fairly well, as long as they are handled gently and properly right from a young age.
Ferrets can live from 6 to 10 years, depending on how well they are taken care of. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who seem to misunderstand ferrets, painting them in a negative light.
They most definitely don't deserve being outcasted by those who are seeking pets. They are domesticated animals, and their wild relatives are believed to be the Steppe and European polecats; other than that, they don't really have any exact counterparts that are out in the wild.
Like all other animals, it is essential that potential owner should do their research to figure out if a ferret is the right pet for them. But for starters, scroll on to see the most basic (and important!) reasons why ferrets do make good pets—one that could even rival cats and dogs!
