20 Pictures That Prove Quokkas Are The Most Underrated Adorable Animals

Quokkas are the happiest animals on the internet, and for good reason. These smiley creatures are so photogenic that there was a year when an influx of tourists took selfies with them and spread them all over social media platforms with a hashtag.

The majority of quokkas live off the western coast of Australia on an island called Rottnest Island. Named by Dutch explorers in the 17th century after seeing that the quokkas similarly looked like rats and felt the island is a rat's nest.

At times when an area where a certain animal reside gets popular online, tourists often would visit it and things would go south. But the life of Quokka after gaining popularity actually became better.

There was a rise in their population, which was a good thing after the news that their population is decreasing. At the same time, they are animals who are known to be friendly to humans.

Just as long as you make sure to follow the rules where they reside. And that is to not touch them or try to pet them.

This is because they have sharp teeth that cost a number of accidents yearly and as docile as they are, you'll never know if they'd do harm to you. So if you ever go and visit them, better keep your hands and food to yourself but make sure your camera is ready for that lovely selfie.

Quokkas are used to living in a group and it's nice that they learned to adapt near humans. Sadly they are still vulnerably endangered and because of climate change, their habitat is at risk as well.

There's hope that they continue to thrive with the help of those who care for them and maybe be saved from predators who invade their homes. It would be nice if these quokkas wouldn't lose their title as the happiest animals on the internet and people would be there to witness that.
