They mentioned they'll even let the dog run around an unfenced property.
German Shepherds stand out for their remarkable combination of intelligence and unwavering loyalty. Their athletic physique and strong work ethic make them great companions, police K-9s, herders, and even therapy pets.
When it comes to the cost of a German Shepherd puppy, it can vary widely depending on where you get it. Considering a pup from an inexperienced breeder or someone who had an unexpected litter?
You can expect to pay somewhere between $500 and $1,000. On the other hand, if you're looking at professional breeders who produce show-quality dogs, they can cost as much as $2,000 to $4,000.
The expenses don't end there. You've got to make your German Shepherd Dog in tip-top shape, too!
Aside from annual checkups, owners need to have money for emergency vet care when their dogs become sick. During the first year of the puppy, they'll spend hundreds of bucks for the vaccination.
Then there are also other basic needs. Lifestyle-wise, the owner needs to find time to stimulate their dog to prevent behavior problems.
On r/ChoosingBeggars, someone posted a Craigslist ad of an aspiring dog owner who's only willing to pay 1/4 the price of a purebred GSD puppy. This person even requires the breeder to give them a dog that already has its first round of shots.
The person also blatantly states they won't shell out over 300 bucks.
The stated amount is way off the price range of such a dog breed. And from the looks of it, you can already tell that this person will neglect the dog.
This person probably wouldn't take care of the dog properly.
Letting the dog outside unleashed will be a bad idea, though. It could attack others.
At 300 bucks, nobody probably would give this person a purebred German Shepherd Dog. If this ad poster intends to let their dog run around freely in their property, then we hope nobody actually sells them one.
Because even if dogs are trained to only run within a property, there's a huge chance that it'll go beyond its owner's yard when triggered. And they'll just be contributing to the list of dogs that get put down for becoming a public safety concern, which is heartbreaking.
