Veterinarians use skin staples to assist in the natural healing of an open wound on a dog. When dogs have been injured, their wounds are mended with the help of staples; dog owners need to make sure that nothing disrupts the healing process. 

It's not easy to figure out what your dog needs exactly to feel comfortable. There are several methods used to close the incision after the dog has undergone surgery; it depends on the specific injury or condition they have. 

Veterinary doctors sometimes use surgical glue, staples, or stitches to help mend a dog’s wound. As of late, surgical staples are becoming more prominent because they are more affordable and also easy to put in and remove. 

A Redditor who goes by the username u/Practical_Honeydew94 made a post on the r/AmItheA**hole subReddit where he explained how he refused to let his GF remove his dog’s staples early post-op. Op and his GF received medical advice from her mom, but he is unsure whether he made the right choice by taking this stance.

His girlfriend's mom is a nurse practitioner and recommended that they take the staples themselves.

Op's GF suggested that they take the staples out early.

Op needs to make sure the GF doesn't do it behind his back.

Op has every right to take extra precautions to make sure his dog recovers well. The girlfriend and mother ignored the vet's advice and took things very lightly.
