Do you guys remember the story about the sarcophagus that was dug up in Alexandria, Egypt? It wasn't that long ago, but for those of you who don't know. The huge sealed coffin was dug up recently and as per the incredibly genius people, it hasn't been opened for over 2000 years.
Now, as you can imagine a huge debate began all over the internet of people thinking there are some dark forces and plagues buried in the coffin and shouldn't be opened. They literally just ran with the story and it wasn't long until the tabloids also picked it up.
But luckily for us, the people at the Supreme Council of Antiquities don't believe in any of these stories and myths and so they went ahead and opened the coffin.
"The sarcophagus has been opened, but we have not been hit by a curse," said Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Council. Do you know what they found inside? Inside they found three decomposed mummies, from which one has fractures on the skull due to a sharp object.
The sarcophagus has a crack along the side and that has allowed red sewage water to enter the coffin and that made the mummies decompose.
Numerous testing will be done on the mummies by the Council Of Antiquities to determine from which era they are.
One thing they fortunately already know is that the mummies are not from any royal background as there is no inscription on the sarcophagus and there are also no gold or silver amulets, masks or statues in the coffin.
Have a look down below at how they opened the coffin.
Here the sarcophagus was still resting in its place in Egypt.
