Claudia Hankin was enjoying an evening of relaxing with a good book on her porch when a cute cat nearby caught her attention. Claudia wasn't too concerned as a lot of stray cats tend to hang out in her neighborhood.
Her immediate reaction was to call the cat over and give it some love and attention. But, Claudia didn't wear her glasses for reading, so the cat was looking a bit on the blurry-side.
Claudia put on her glasses so she could take a good look at her new buddy, and she was shocked to find that the creature she was trying to befriend wasn't a cat at all. "Took about 15 seconds to realize it wasn't a cat, once I put my glasses on," she said.
"I laughed and said, 'You're not a kitty.'" Claudia's visitor wasn't a cat, but a curious possum who had decided to go out hunting for some nighttime snacks.
Claudia quickly grabbed her phone to take some pics of her late-night guest. But as soon as the flash went off, the possum took off into the night.
So, how did Claudia feel about her surprise visitor? "I wasn't actually scared at all, as possums are harmless and very sweet, helpful neighbors," she said.
"But I would have been mightily startled if I'd realized it was a wild animal WHILE I was petting it." Well, thankfully, that didn't happen!
Claudia says she won't mind if the possum comes back to visit again.
Sounds like it could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship after all!
