"I feel bad for opening the food but it was an honest mistake"

Moment Lady Called The Cops On Her Neighbour For "Mistakenly" Opening The Bag That Came With Her Food

Double-checking is vital since it prevents errors. When we take the time to double-check, we can detect errors and correct them before they become problems.

This keeps us out of trouble and saves us time in the long run. Double-checking also helps us be more cautious and pay attention to details, which is useful in many aspects of life.

OP's fatigue from a lengthy drive home from vacation prompted her to order takeout but little did they know that a small error would turn their evening into a perplexing one. As OP's husband unloaded the food, he realized that it was not from the restaurant they had ordered from.

OP's husband told her that he didn't know she ordered food from another spot. And that was when they realized that someone else's food must have been mistakenly delivered to them.

They didn't eat it; they just set it aside in case someone came, and later on, a knock landed on their door. A woman inquired about a five-man delivery, and the OP explained what happened to her but the lady left.

What the OP didn't know is that a chain reaction of unforeseen happenings were about to happen. The police arrived, leaving OP wondering if they had done something wrong.

What will happen next? Keep scrolling to read the entire story in the OP's own words.

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the AH:

My husband opened a take out food bag that came with ours. The bags did look different (one paper, one plastic) so in hindsight we could have checked the label on the bag sooner and set it aside.

The OP left this edit to further clarify things

Our food came in a plastic bag. Theirs came in a paper bag. I told my husband the food was here, so he grabbed all the bags and started unpacking. When he opened the paper bag is when he said "huh i didnt realize you ordered from five guys, too." My guess is our food and their food must have been delivered at about the same time, on the photo the drive left of our delivery you can only see one bag. I had thought the driver maybe misdelivered two orders at once.

What happened was a simple mistake but it resulted in a surprise turn of events. Even though they meant no harm, OP's neighbour still called the police on them but they didn't have to.

Some Redditors say they could have just used the complaint menu in the app to report that the delivery was taken to the wrong place and they would issue a refund. The OP was declared not the AH and that's a wrap.
