Language is a beautiful thing — it shows the wonderful diversity of people in the world. At the same time, it also divides and differentiates us from one another.

Some of us are fortunate enough to learn more than language from our homes, school electives, and the places we choose to live in. People also actively learn languages other than their own for work or simply because they want to.

The freedom to learn any language that you desire means you won't probably look like the stereotypical person who speaks that language. The look of delight on the native speakers' faces when they find out you can understand and participate in a conversation in their mother tongue is always rewarding.

And because you don't look like someone who speaks their language, some people will feel the need to talk about you in that language assuming you don't understand. What they say will not always be pleasant and most of the time it's just plain rude.
