Regardless of how much a parent attempts to treat every child equally, your kids will probably see things differently. Even the smallest gesture in the direction of one child will cause another to cry out in favor of themselves.
When children perceive you as favoritizing another sibling in a certain way, the kids may be right. But then, treating siblings the same way is almost impossible.
Whether one is older or younger, age-appropriate norms are necessary, such as those pertaining to bedtimes and going to the movies with friends. Ability, temperament, and personality all affect how you engage with each child on a daily basis and determine which children are granted particular privileges.
A child who struggles with learning, has a disability, or exhibits challenging behavior could need more of your time. But another kid may object to any one of these truths and point out to you that you prefer their sister or brother.
One of the OP's kids, Rachel, has a lot of chronic health issues she's been struggling with since she was little. The OP's been kept pretty busy making sure she stays as healthy as possible.
Then comes OP's other child, Vik, who has always resented the extra attention his sister receives, which is understandable. One day, he called the OP to tell him he was sick, but the OP didn't believe him.
