MIL Gives Away Son's Cat Despite Being Told To Wait For His Return, Risks Losing Contact With Her Son

Although having a pet can be very enjoyable, it also carries a lot of responsibilities. Some pet owners are in a situation where they feel they must give up their animals.

There may be many reasons for this, but giving them up should never be the first option. This is because it can be a difficult and stressful procedure to give up your cat.

There are several situations in which you could need to give up your cat, ranging from breakups in relationships to changes in your financial situation. But if that's the only option, it is best to start the process of giving up a cat or kitten as soon as possible to avoid things getting worse.

Undoubtedly, this is a challenging choice, but the OP and her partner had to give up one of their cats as it wasn't allowed there. Yes, the OP and her partner were moving to a new country, so they were staying at her MIL's prior to when they would leave.

Her MIL and FIL have been caring for the cats while they have been visiting the OP's family. Later on, they got a call from MIL saying they had found a potential new home for the cat that couldn't be taken to the country they were moving to.

They told the MIL to wait until they returned in two days so they could check out the owners their house, say goodbye, and settle him in, but that didn't happen.

And here, the OP is telling the reddit community her story

From a redditor:

I agree with the poster that said get contact information for the family that adopted your cat. And if she won’t give you that information it would make me wonder if there was a family or if she didn’t take and drop it off somewhere or give it to a shelter or have it put down.

So many redditors agreed that the OP was surely not overreacting as her MIL was told to wait, but she didn't. This cat is clearly family to the OP and her partner, and they just wanted to make sure it was in capable hands, but the MIL didn't even give them that chance.
