But for two lions, Tarzan and Tanya, their story took a turn for the better when a dedicated team rescued them from a life of captivity and gave them the chance to roam freely. For over eight years, Tarzan and Tanya endured a miserable existence as part of a circus in Guatemala.

When Jan and Tim, the president and vice-president of ADI, arrived to save Tarzan and Tanya, the lions were understandably frightened and confused. Years of hardship had left both physical and emotional scars on these gentle giants, bearing testimony to the neglect they endured.

But their rescue marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. Tarzan and Tanya were taken to a rehabilitation center, where they received the care and attention they desperately needed. Then, the ultimate destination awaited them – a sanctuary in South Africa, where they would find safety and freedom.
