No one desires to have a toxic mother-in-law. A toxic mother-in-law might not always have an unfounded vendetta against you.

Frequently, they don't truly let themselves get to know you on a personal level. She doesn't appear to be comfortable with the decisions or the thought of someone taking on a significant role in their child's life and making decisions in which she would normally be involved.

The OP's only problem with her mother-in-law was just about her feeling like a guest in her own home. This is because OP's MIL lives with her and her husband, and she calls all the shots.

As the wife, the OP wants to feel like she can have at least some of the house the way she likes. Apart from these, the OP has never thought her mother-in-law was mean or bad, but then she went too far by trying to harm their cat.

This is a kitten the OP and her husband got months ago, and since MIL hates cats, the OP hasn't been able to have the cat inside. OP's husband said they could have the cat inside, but only when the mom isn't around, but the one time she saw the cat inside, she decided to kill the cat.
