You kind of expect that when you're watching an episode of your favorite show, the characters will be played by the same people that played them the week before. That, apparently, isn't a thing.
The number of series that have shamelessly recast prominent characters with no explanation is quite astounding. Actors who believe their television shows would be meaningless without them should reconsider.
Do you remember what happened to Joey in "Friends" when he got on the writer's bad side?
TV talent gets changed all the time, whether it's due to death, behind-the-scenes feuding, or creative differences—and most of the time, viewers don't notice. Moreover, while a show is still running, even starring cast members can have their roles recast.
It is an interesting phenomenon - even though our brains tell us that something is not right and that we should stop watching the show, we still continue. After a few episodes, we can't even remember who the previous actor was.
It is truly the strangest thing. However, we don't think the actors who were replaced find it amusing.
We've picked up some of the TV performers who have been replaced over the years in case you missed their untimely departures. Do you remember them?
1. The Baby-Sitters Club - Dawn
Netflix revealed that Xochitl Gomez would be leaving the show due to an "awesome new job," allowing Kyndra Sanchez to take up the role of Dawn.

It was claimed that Dutch actor Michiel Huisman replaced Ed Skrein due to a prior engagement, but the actor later claimed that his leaving was due to "politics."
3. The Fosters - Jake T. Austin
Following the season two finale, Jake T. Austin left his position from the show, causing fans to believe his character was killed in a big cliffhanger. Noah Centineo, on the other hand, stepped into the role of Jesus in the season three premiere.
4. Riverdale - Reggie Mantle
Ross Butler played jock Reggie Mantle in Riverdale's first season, but after landing a part on 13 Reasons Why, the actor chose to leave the role. After that, Charles Melton was cast in his place, and he managed to win over even his biggest haters, who were part of the #NotMyReggie movement.
5. Ann Veal - Arrested Development
The authors decided to replace Alessandra Torresani with Mae Whitman in season two, as a gag.
"They were originally going to keep replacing the actress that played Ann, just so you were always on your toes," Whitman revealed to People's Couch Surfing podcast. "And then they stuck with me, which I feel like is a real insult. They were like, ‘No, no, you're making the whole not-memorable thing work, we'll just go with that.'"
6. Aunt Viv - Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
This is, without a doubt, one of the most famous recastings of all time. After three seasons as Aunt Viv, Janet Hubert was abruptly replaced with Daphne Maxwell Reid.
Then, in 2020, Will Smith and the rest of the cast, including Hubert, sat down for an HBO Max reunion special to analyze the conflict. Smith and Hubert reconciled after 27 years, with the actress stating that she felt mistreated by the actor, who then apologized for his behavior.
Some of our favorite TV shows have given birth to some of our favorite characters. And of course, the actors behind these characters are the main reason we fall in love with them.
And while watching them, we simply can't believe the show would work without them. However, our article proved the opposite.
