If you think you have seen all circumstances of the owner's dedication to their pets, we present you with a new one. Deborah Hodge has taken it to a whole new level.
Deborah Hodge is 49 years old, a single mom of two from London. On April 19, she did something amazing.
She married her cat named India. The beautiful ceremony was held in a park in southeast London.
The ceremony was presided over by a legally ordained friend. After the ceremony, Debora, her beloved cat, and friends had a picnic in the park.
A lovely environment, a great atmosphere, and her closest friend made this day even more beautiful. Deborah works as a life coach, and she is well aware that her friends and two kids find the wedding perplexing.
But she is thankful for all the support they gave to her. She wanted to demonstrate to everyone how much her cat means to her and that she'll never give up on her, no matter the circumstances.
Previously, she was forced to give away three pets, but now she determined she had to do something and fight so she would never feel the pain of lost pets again. Below you can see the rest of her brave story and beautiful photos of the wonderful event.
Deborah and her beloved cat
“She is fundamentally the most important thing in my life after my children,” Deborah said.
James Linsell Clark/ZengerHer furry friend has been with her since 2017
In 2020, a car hit her, and she lost her leg. Since that tragic event, a three-legged cat depends on her human more than ever.
James Linsell Clark/ZengerEarlier, Deborah had lost three pets because of her landlords
Her previous landlord made her give up on her two canines friend, Starshine and Siri. Then five years ago, her current landlord pressured her to give up a cat named Jamal or she would be evicted.
At that moment, she had to. But she still feels the pain of lost fur friends.
James Linsell Clark/Zenger"I’m on my last pennies, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain, so I married my cat!"
“We lost Siri and Starshine, and then Jamal, and I do not want to lose another beloved pet. I vowed in sickness and in health, in death do us part, and I meant it.”
“It absolutely broke my heart. Your pets become part of your family, and it was just absolutely devastating having to say goodbye to them,” explained Deborah.
Despite the fact that her landlord doesn't allow pets, she had to try to convince him
After sending him countless emails, he finally agreed. Deborah said:
“I refuse to be parted with her. I’d rather live on the streets than be without her. I recited vows under the universe that no man will ever tear myself and India apart.
I set out my intention that I would never be separated from the animal I adore. I can’t be without India. She is truly a sensation; she is so friendly and amazing.”
James Linsell Clark/ZengerShe could still be evicted because she lost her job in March, but she believes that everything will be fine
“By marrying India, I need any future landlords to know that we come as a package, and we cannot be separated under any circumstances as she is as important to me as the children. I don’t believe in organized religion; however, I do have faith.
India always came back, even after losing a leg. I am her universe, and that is why I married her,” said Deborah.
James Linsell Clark/ZengerShe stated she knows that some people may think her wedding is crazy
“Although some might think it a stupid idea, I wanted to be able to show physically, by holding the ceremony in front of my friends even though they thought I was bonkers that I am very serious. I had a group of friends there for the ceremony – they all think I’ve gone batsh*t crazy, but we all had a lovely day.
My kids weren’t there on the day, they just think that Mummy has lost the plot,” Deborah explained.
James Linsell Clark/ZengerFor the ceremony, Deborah wore a tuxedo
She was inspired by her cat's natural look and wanted them to match outfits. And for the special event, the cat wore a gold lamé, cape, and bow tie.
We can all understand how terrible it was for her to lose her furry family members. Such a loss can indeed leave a huge trauma.
But is she insane for marrying her cat? The suffering that pet parents go through when their landlords make them give up family pets is really tough.
But we are curious, what would you do in those circumstances?
