Redditor Punishes Daughter After Coming Home 2 Hours Past Her Curfew And Being Rude To Her Future Stepmom
"When I got home [around 9AM] my fiancée was up and clearly distraught..."

Kids tend to resist parenting from their step-parents for a multitude of reasons. The main reason is usually due to loyalty conflicts since children may feel that accepting their step-parent is a betrayal to their other biological parent.
Besides that, it can take time for children to get used to their step-parents since it's an unfamiliar addition to their family. That lack of familiarity can lead to resistance since they still need to get to know them better.
Step-parents can also have a completely different parenting style than biological parents. It's something completely new that needs time to get used to.
A Redditor who later deleted their account made a post on the r/AmItheAhole subReddit where they explained how they punished their daughter after discovering that she lied about how late she came home. The user's daughter lost her temper after their fiancé confronted her about coming an entire two hours after her curfew, which gave them even more reasons to punish her.
The Reddit community had a lot of different reactions to the user's post. Scroll down to check out the full Reddit post, and scroll a little further to read the comments from the original post.
Here's the original post by a Reddit user who later deleted their account:

OP gave their daughter permission to go out with her friends but reminded her of her curfew.

Upon OP's return home, he discovered things didn't go according to plan.

OP discovered that their daughter lied to them and punished her.

OP doesn't like to pick sides, and doubted the way he dealt with the situation.

OP thinks he might potentially be the a-hole for the following reason:

Here's how the Reddit community reacted to the user's post:

The fiancé is the only victim here.

OP is setting both his daughter and girlfriend up for failure.

The fiancé should not have a major parental role.

OP's daughter needs to learn that her actions have consequences.

OP's punishment feels appropriate, considering the facts.

OP's daughter violated OP's trust and deserved to be punished.

OP's daughter is mad because she got caught and got called out.

You can't expect your younger girlfriend to parent your daughter.

OP acted as every parent would.

This user asked OP for more info about the situation.

“If I am in charge of a minor, and they are home 2h late past curfew, and I'm probably stressed and worried”

The fiancé should not have tried to punish OP's daughter.

The daughter got caught lying.

The fiancé only confronted OP's daughter, nothing more.

OP had every right to punish his daughter after lying to him. The fiancé must have been under a lot of stress after OP's daughter didn't show up for 2 hours, and that's not something anyone wants to go through.
