Each and every pupper and doggo here is a precious gift to the world.
There's no such thing as an ugly dog, just to be clear, but just how adorable a dog can get? That's an entirely different conversation.
If you don't already know, you may be surprised to learn that DNA analysis published in the late 90's revealed that every single dog ever is descended from wolves over 130,000 years ago. It's even believed that many dogs went through domestication in two separate instances!
It's hard to look at some dogs and imagine how far down the DNA chain they are from wolves and not have a hearty chuckle, but in some ways it's evidence that dogs have enough in common for us to behave so matter-of-fact about the unanimous cuteness levels. Yet, no matter how many cute dogs we've seen before, we just can't seem to get enough.
In case you need to read it, there's nothing wrong with a relentless, never-ending desire to see more cute dogs. It's healthy, I'm sure of it.
If there's one thing Reddit doesn't get enough credit for, it's the ability to bring us a never-ending supply of those highly coveted cute dog pictures. One of the best examples is a subreddit that isn't even exclusively for the dogs: r/aww.
Reddit currently hosts over 3.1 million subreddits and r/aww is the 3rd most popular of them all, with 29.5 million members! Reddit, which launched in 2005, and if you find numbers interesting then you might be surprised to learn that it is the 3rd most popular social media platform in the world.
1/4 of Reddit's entire user base (23% to be approximate) is aged 25-29, and half of Reddit's entire user base is estimated to be within the United States. Second place, is a mere 7.7% from The United Kingdom.
Every day, r/aww gets 614 posts and over 8,100 comments, it's a very active subreddit and one of the first places people will go to when they have something precious that could totally go viral. Some of the cutest things on the whole internet passed through r/aww first.
The top keyword in r/aww is "boop." Since boopin' goes hand in hand (or paw in paw) with adorable, cute, precious, and wholesome... that makes perfect sense.
r/aww isn't just for dogs and puppies, all sorts of adorable animals and people are shared every day. Right now, we just happen to be gushing the most over the doggies.
In the United States, having a dog in the family is often considered about as "American as it gets." According to a 2019/20 pet owners survey, over 63 million households in the US have at least one dog.
63 million households equates to almost 60%. Sadly, renters with pets still manage to fill out 1.6x as many applications for rental units as renters without any pets at all.
In small surveys, many dog owners ranked "nail trimmings" as the source of most of their stress and anxiety when it comes to being a dog owner. Dogs tend to not like nail trimmings if even one time they've had a painful experience.
A large portion of dog owners in smaller surveys also felt that one of their biggest obstacles was choosing the right food. This is largely due to the abundance of choices and the steady stream of conflicting information about what's best.
If you didn't see these puppies, puppers, dogs, and doggos and know deep in your heart that they are all some of the cutest, little critters you've ever seen in your WHOLE life, I don't know what to tell you... other than maybe you just need to see more dogs. There's nothing wrong with needing to see more dogs!
