Kanye West’s Twitch Debut Ends In Ban After Seven Minutes

In just the past few weeks, Kanye West has managed to stay at the center of controversy, showing up to an interview wearing a KKK hood, amplifying anti-Semitic rhetoric, and even taking shots at the children of Jay-Z and Beyoncé. So, it probably won't come as a shock that his first solo venture into Twitch streaming ended just as chaotically, with a permanent ban within seven minutes of going live.

On Friday, April 25, West posted a link to his new Twitch channel, which he branded "Yeezy Streams," through his X (formerly Twitter) account. Despite having barely scraped together 220 followers, the 47-year-old was swiftly blacklisted from the platform before the stream could gain any real traction.

This wasn’t his first brush with Twitch drama either. Earlier this month, on April 6, rapper and frequent collaborator Digital Nas saw his own Twitch channel temporarily suspended after hosting Kanye during a live stream. During that broadcast, they previewed a controversial track from West’s upcoming album WW3, a move that apparently crossed the platform’s guidelines.

Following that incident, West floated the idea of launching his own streaming service, teasing a project called "Yeezy Streaming," though it remained unclear whether it would focus on music, live content, or both.

Ultimately, it was once again West’s inflammatory remarks that triggered Twitch’s rapid response this time around. Despite his attempts to pivot into the live-streaming world, it’s clear that Kanye’s tendency to court controversy isn't something even a new platform debut could outrun.

West appeared on the stream wearing a black jacket and Prada sunglasses, quickly launching into a discussion about the "free passes" he claimed to have received from Elon Musk on X, the same "passes" he said encouraged him to start posting hateful content.

We won’t repeat the specifics of what was said, but the slurs he used were directed at both Jewish people and the LGBTQ+ community. "That freedom is like a n**** getting money and going to Louis Vuitton and you keep going on your credit card and that s*** never goes off," he added during the broadcast.

It didn’t take long for Twitch to react. Within seconds, West’s page was taken down and replaced with a standard message reading: "This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch's Community Guidelines or Terms of Service."

The internet, naturally, had a lot to say. "He was live for 420 seconds and probably caused 900 terms of service violations," one user joked on X after news of the ban broke. "Well, who could've predicted that?" another added sarcastically.

Kanye West is one of the most influential and controversial figures in modern music and pop culture. Rising to fame in the early 2000s with his groundbreaking albums like The College Dropout and Graduation, West quickly established himself as a visionary producer, rapper, and artist who wasn’t afraid to challenge norms.

Beyond music, he’s ventured into fashion with his Yeezy brand, leaving a major mark on the sneaker and streetwear industries. However, his career has also been defined by frequent controversies, outspoken political views, and headline-grabbing behavior that often overshadows his creative accomplishments.

Despite the polarizing nature of his public persona, West’s impact on music, fashion, and culture remains undeniable, continuing to spark conversation around the world.
