Keep the dog, rehome the husband.
When Reddit user u/Gerrrrtty and her husband discussed potentially getting a dog, she (understandably) assumed it would be a mutual decision they would make together. But that's not quite how it played out, and she shared her story in the r/relationships subreddit.
The OP explained that she and her husband have been married for three years, and they have rarely had any issues. They saw a counselor before they got married and that helped their relationship a lot.
The couple doesn't have any children, and they had been considering getting a dog. But the OP says it hasn't really been on the cards for them because they both travel a lot.
The OP's husband recently started a new job and won't be traveling as much. He works away from home, while the OP works from home.
The Redditor says she does miss having a dog, but there are certain dogs she wouldn't consider because of their lifestyle. She is very conscious of the extensive health problems some dog breeds can have.
So, the OP was shocked when her husband came home with a bulldog puppy. Bulldogs are notorious for having breathing problems, so the OP would never have agreed to get one.
The pup is already having problems breathing, and he snores constantly. He will need soft palate surgery, and his nostrils will be enlarged at the very least.
After only four months, the OP's husband has already become lazy with walking the dog, and he won't clean up after it. The couple has been arguing about it, and there has been a lot of tension between them.
The OP's husband wants the dog to sleep with them, but she told him she would sleep in another room if the dog was in their bed. That didn't bother him, and the OP ended up staying in the guest room.
The OP says the puppy is a good dog, but she feels bad for him because he has so much trouble breathing. She is very upset with her husband for getting a dog with so many health problems but is unsure how to address the situation.
What are your thoughts on this situation? Do you think the OP is overreacting about the dog, or was her husband out of line to buy the pup without even discussing it with her first?
