It's not a secret that humpback whales are truly one of the most enormous and most majestic creatures out there, and they are actually a lot bigger than we believe their size to be. They can grow up to 60 feet long and 18 feet wide, and while it may be scary to be close to them, seeing them from afar would actually be one of the most wonderful things you can see in your lifetime.
Humpback whales are quite known for their melodic and haunting songs, and they are one of the loudest animals in the world. They can be heard up to 20 miles away, and each of their "songs" may even last for about 20 minutes in length; some may even say they are the Mariah Careys of the whale world!
They aren't born knowing how to sing, though, but each of them has its own song. They are smart enough to form dialects of their own within their populations!
Currently, it is believed that there are approximately 40,000 humpback whales living in the world, and it's a great thing that killing them is illegal now because they were popular targets for hunting once. However, some countries still continue this practice.
While you may see them as intimidating mammoths, they can also be playful as well. They love poking their heads out on the water surface or just slapping their tails around.
They also love to do this thing called "breaching," wherein they leap majestically out of the water and perform amazing acrobatic twirls. Some people are fortunate enough to see this happening in real life.
That being said, take a look at this amazing footage of a humpback whale enjoying its breaching stint on the coast of South Africa!
The video has gone viral on social media, and for all the right reasons.
A scuba diver by the name of Craig Capehart captured a magnificent whale on video while he was off the coast of Mbotyi, South Africa. By the looks of it, the adult whale seemed like it weighed nearly 40 tons!
He then later shared the awesome video on Youtube, wherein it gained millions of views. Craig said that he was with three other divers aboard an inflatable motorboat, and while they were looking for sardines to track nearby predators, they saw a humpback whale breaching majestically in front of them.

“It seems that never before has a recording been made of an adult humpback whale leaping entirely out of the water! A very rare event, indeed,” said Craig in the video’s description.
“Dolphins and even Great White Sharks have been seen flying out of the water, but this is a first for an adult humpback whale!”
Craig and his mates were definitely lucky enough to see this beautiful creature just enjoying himself in the water. It seems like it was definitely enjoying doing all those twists and turns!
