The most common cat fears are loud noises, new pets, strangers, unfamiliar objects, and leaving home. Cats are quick-thinking creatures that are always on guard.

It’s because they are both hunters and prey by nature. So when they encounter something or someone for the first time, their brain goes into overload, deliberating whether it should fight or flight.

That’s why they like squeezing into tight places. It gives them a sense of security, only one direction they need to monitor, and time to think and react if something unexpected happens.

The average score was just under 60 percent correct. Still, 13 percent of participants did quite well, scoring 75 percent or above., and the researchers dubbed these achievers “cat whisperers.”
