23 Instances Of Retail Employees Going Above And Beyond To Provide Customers With Discounts
Rules at work are built on the trust between employee and employer, and though it might not always be possible to know if they are followed, the employer still expects their employees to abide by them. However, there are times when it is acceptable to bend the rules, especially if it does not cause harm and makes someone else’s day.
This is particularly relevant in the retail industry, as it is possible to give a discount without having to fill out any official documents, making the customer feel appreciated and the worker feels satisfied that they were able to do something nice. Retail workers often find creative ways to give discounts to customers who may not necessarily qualify for them.
Apex Redditor recently made a post on Twitter about receiving a military discount, despite not being in the military. The cashier pretended not to hear their confession and allowed them to purchase the item at a lower cost.
This story went viral, prompting other people to share their own experiences. Some claimed to have received military discounts simply because they knew someone in the military or because their reason for purchasing something made the retail worker laugh.
It appears that retail workers are more than happy to find an excuse to offer something for free or at a reduced price.

Userlike agrees that it may seem irresponsible to make exceptions for customers, as it could be seen as losing money. However, research has shown that a relaxed return policy can actually lead to increased sales, with one study showing an 11.2 percent increase.
The customer will appreciate the company and the people working for it when exceptions are made, as it shows a level of care for them and a willingness to go beyond the rules for their satisfaction. This level of kindness can be more beneficial in the long run than following strict rules.
