Pooch With Two Broken Legs Manages To Crawl And Stagger To Remote Park Ranger Station To Find Help

There are so many animals out there who need our help. But unfortunately, most of them never receive it.

Ranger is one of the lucky few who found kind people willing to help him. This poor dog had both of his front legs broken, and he still managed to stagger to a remote ranger station.

When April Loew and her fellow park rangers saw the small dog outside their station, they erupted into tears. He was shivering and had two fractured front legs.

April, an Arizona State Parks ranger, quickly took it upon herself to nurture the dog back to health. The unusual Australian Cattle Dog/Catahoula combination arrived outside the Lost Dutchman State Park ranger station, which is four miles from the nearest gas station.

Loew told ABC 15 Arizona that his tail was curled under and he was absolutely shivering. He was hopping around like a kangaroo on his rear legs.

“I was crying, the park manager here was crying,” she said. “We just couldn’t believe that someone would leave this little guy because he is so, so sweet.”

The dog was taken to the vet for treatment of his shattered bones, but he had neither a microchip nor a tattoo to identify him. Ranger's vet bills are being paid by Loew, who intends to keep him. She is perplexed as to why somebody would be so callous as to abandon a dog in this manner.

Take a look at this heartbreaking story with a happy ending:

Loew believes the dog was dumped at the ranger station because of its remote location and the fact that it could hardly walk, and she'd like to know why the culprit didn't leave a message.

"That would be a great thing to do, to at least say, 'This is what happened, I can't take care of this, I don't want to do it this way, can somebody here get him the right help?'" she said. "So that we could just have an answer to the big mystery."

Loew is covering the expense of the dog's medical care and says she's pleased to take him in. The dog, which she named Ranger, had surgery on his shattered legs and it will take several months for him to recover.

While she is thrilled to accept him, she is concerned about what might happen if the original owner returns.

"I don't know that I would want to deprive a family of their dog, but I would certainly question how the dog came to be here from their home," she said.

Ranger was fortunate to run into a kindhearted person willing to help him. It's a good thing his lucky star didn't fail him - because his owners did. They've failed him big time.
