Part of a dog owner's responsibility is to clean up after a pet is done with its dirty business. Furthermore, if the property owner asks not to poop on their lawn, the dog owner should respect that.
But some people out there are just hard-headed, just like this one Redditor. Let's take a look at her story, which was posted on the "Am I The A**hole?" (AITA) subreddit.
The original poster (OP) tells users that she lives in a populous suburb located in a big city. In her neighborhood, the houses are close together, with small patches of grass in front of each home.
She has a routine of walking her dog around the same four blocks multiple times a day. Her dog usually walks on the grass next to the sidewalk and always poops on the same large lawn of a multi-family building.
According to the OP, she would always pick up the poop and once even got permission from the landlord to throw the waste in their trash can. Recently, a new tenant moved into one of the units and has aggressively confronted OP three times, insisting that her dog should not step on the grass, let alone poop there.
Despite explaining that the landlord had previously given her permission, the new tenant didn't care, stating that she lives there now. OP has tried to avoid that specific lawn, but her dog is confused by the sudden change.
Considering she doesn't have a yard of her own, OP is pondering whether she should change her walking route entirely to accommodate the new tenant's wishes.
The OP's question:
RedditThe OP admits she doesn't know whether or not she's in the wrong.
RedditShe takes her dog out on a walk and it would take a dump in a specific property.
RedditThe landlord of the property the dog frequents allows it to do its business there.
RedditThe OP started having issues when a new tenant moved it.
Suddenly, her dog isn't allowed to step on the lawn.
RedditThe OP genuinely wants to know if she's wrong in this situation.
RedditThe OP was scolded multiple times by the new tenant.
RedditThe OP has no other choice but to avoid the lawn.
RedditIt's not the OP's property. She has no right to let her dog poop there, even if the landlord allowed it.
RedditThe OP should've listen the moment she got her first warning.
RedditThe OP is considered a trespasser in this property.
It's not the OP's property. She has no right to let her dog poop there, even if the landlord allowed it.
RedditThe OP is clearly the a-hole here. First of all, she has no entitlement to the property even if the landlord allowed her to do so previously.
She should've listened the first time she was told that it's prohibited to let the dogs poop on the property. Continuing to allow her dog to do so, despite the new tenant's repeated requests, shows a lack of respect for the tenant's wishes and the property they now occupy.
Moreover, understanding and adapting to new neighbors' concerns is part of being a considerate community member.
