Man Finds Out His Dad Divorced His Mom For A Woman He Knew From High School, Contemplates If He Should Tell His Mom
"I don't know if I should tell my mum or whether to hold off"

In today's world, divorce has become the order of the day. New marriages are crashing while the older marriages which we thought would last, crash as well.
Lack of commitment, financial difficulties, and infidelity are among the major causes of divorce worldwide. However, one's age and culture may alter everything.
Relationship survival typically necessitates a combination of open communication, intimacy, and empathy. When any of these features disappear or begin to diminish, the love bond between two individuals may deteriorate.
Meet u/MORNST4R1, the 21-year-old narrator of today's story whose parents got divorced after 24 years of marriage. It all began when the OP's dad started to get more and more distant.
He had always liked doing things on his own and been a bit of a lone ranger kind of guy, but this was different. It seemed like he had basically hit a midlife crisis, and he was depressed.
OP's dad said he might move to New Zealand, which at the time sounded crazy, and even he admitted it was more of a dreamy suggestion than what he wanted to do. They suspected that he might have a new lover, but he assured them that wasn't the issue.
Fast forward to when the brother and his girlfriend went over to see him for a couple of months, only to come back and tell the OP that their suspicions were true.
So now the OP is asking...

It seemed like OP's dad had basically hit a mid life crisis and he was depressed

OP's dad wasn't that kind of guy and him and his mum had been happily married for 24 years

It was really weird and that OP's dad and this woman basically acted like nothing was unusual

OP's mom doesn't think telling his mum would help matters right now

To summarize the whole story...

Let's head into the comments section and find out what other Redditors had to say

There's no way he can prevent OP's siblings from keeping that from everyone

The OP should spill as it could help her move on

He knows where the OP lives

Getting some therapy

OP's dad was cheating on his mother

The OP should be there for his mom

This is an all round bad situation

Don't let his actions bother you

In his mind, he only betrayed his wife

He's been thinking about this for a while

This place is a way road to the dogs

It's wrong to ask him to keep it a secret

Seems like it's what he wanted

The OP shares this update with everyone

He was a great dad to the OP and his siblings

Some Redditors say that OP's parents were most likely married at the time, but the dad was clearly unhappy. OP's father most likely believes that a man should not desert his children and family, therefore he stayed until they were all pretty much grown.
While the other woman could have swayed him, there's a strong probability he was unhappy in his marriage.
