Do you agree that some names set kids up to be bullied in the future?

Woman Sparks Family Feud By Criticizing Sister's Choice Of Baby Name As 'Stupid’

Ah, the joys of impending parenthood! Our narrator’s (Original Poster’s) twin sister, Maisie, was gearing up for the big debut of her baby boy.

Excitement was in the air, but so was a stormy cloud called the baby name dilemma. You see, Maisie and her hubby, both self-proclaimed geeks (no judgment here!), were locked in a battle royale over what to name their little bundle of joy.

Maisie's heart was set on Luffy. The name was inspired by the legendary character from "One Piece,” but her husband wasn’t exactly thrilled about it. He was worried it would make their little boy a prime target for playground taunts.

Things took a heated turn when Maisie turned to OP to seek out her humble opinion—and the honesty meter hit red. "The name is silly," were the words that tumbled out. Oops, maybe a touch too blunt?

Well, in OP’s defense, there was simply no gentler way to put it. In a brave attempt to be the voice of reason, she kindly suggested that maybe, just maybe, they could explore other anime names that are a tad less—mainstream.

Diplomacy in action, right? Well, not quite.

The conversation spiraled out of control, with Maisie trying to force the idea that Luffy was a ‘cute’ name down OP’s throat. But having a nephew named ‘Luffy’ wasn’t giving OP the butterflies she envisioned—she might’ve even accidentally called it stupid.

Tears were spilled, and things were now frosty between the sisters. Did OP take the term ‘brutal honesty’ too far?

Redditors generally agreed that while the name "Luffy" might have its charm in the anime world, it definitely isn’t the best choice for a legal name.

They emphasized the importance of considering the child's future as an adult. Maisie’s husband was right; a name like that would set him up for bullying.

Everyone agreed that balancing creativity with practicality when naming a child is important. And ‘Luffy’ is not the way to go.
