Couple Ends Their Relationship Over Who Needs To Pick Up The Dog's Poop During Their Walks

We always talk about the amazing parts of becoming a pet owner. My dog learned this, my cat did that, and yadda-yadda-yadda — it really is wonderful how much happiness they bring to our lives.

On the flip side, taking care of an animal 24/7, 365 is not a glamorous job. Animals are messy and it up to us to take make sure their surroundings remain clean.

Aside from their stinky farts and eye boogers, picking up their poop gets old really fast. The excitement of becoming a pet owner dims quickly once you realize cleaning up after your pet is a part of your daily life.

What if you never wanted a pet in the first place but someone wants you to clean up after it, would you do it? What if your relationship is on the line?

This young woman was drawing a blank with this problem with her boyfriend, Carl. They have been together for eight months and most of their first dates involved taking his dog to the dog park for a walk.

OP eventually loved the dog and made her consider getting a dog of her own in the future. When she recently lost her job, OP found herself spending more and more time with Carl & his dog.

Almost every day, they walk the dog together when Carl gets home from work. OP thought he was joking when he told her to pick up the dog's poop during one of their walks.

She replied, "your dog, your poop" thinking Carl was just teasing. He got mad and said the least OP could do was help him pick up the dog's poop.

OP is generally not a squeamish person but she does not enjoy picking up dog poop (anyone who says they do is a liar)

She said it would be one thing if Carl really needed her help but this wasn't the case. Plus, the way he said it made it sound like she owed him something and picking up the dog poop is the way to repay it.

Carl called her the next day and didn't apologize. OP also doesn't think she did anything wrong.

Maybe OP does actually owe her boyfriend something. For example, is he supporting her financially since she lost her job?

OP replied that she didn't owe him any money. He just thinks she has to pick up the dog's poops since she is allowed to hang out with them. What?!

Dog owners who let their dog poop wherever and don't pick it up do not deserve their dogs

If you can't be fully be responsible for your dog, don't get a dog. You don't rope in another person to do the dirty work for you.

Point number is unfair and stupid. The second point can be valid but only if he communicated it to OP.

See? Even people who have been married for a while understand how separate responsibilities work.

The only person acting childishly is OP's boyfriend. Expecting help and asking for it when needed are two vastly different things.

In an update we kind of saw coming: OP and her boyfriend broke up... he did it over text, with such a beautiful parting message

The real reason for the breakup was revealed later when OP got a call from her ex's friend

It's a good thing they broke up. OP can finally get a dog of her own who she can use to exact the perfect petty revenge

OP's ex-boyfriend behaved like a jerk when he demanded she picks up his dog's poop. He snapped at her, too when she refused which just made him even worse in my book.

To top it all off, he broke up with her but couldn't fess up to the real reason why and found a way to make her feel like it was her fault as well. Good riddance because this trash of a human being took himself out and did OP a huge favor.
