Abandoned Puppy Found Inside An Airport's Restroom Had A Heartbreaking Note From His Mom

I was scrolling through my feed this morning when this story caught my attention. But before we dive into it, let's talk a bit about our responsibility towards our pets.

When we bring home a pet, we indirectly make a promise to love and care for them. It goes without saying that no pet parent needs to be reminded of how to be kind to their pets.

To us, maybe pets are a way to destress, unwind or live a purposeful life, but to our pets, we're their whole world. There's no doubt that they look up to us for everything, so it's only fair that we live up to their expectations.

But what happens when you suddenly can't take care of them? There are many reasons why this happens.

  1. My landlord doesn't allow pets
  2. I'm not making enough to care for them
  3. My pet has suddenly become aggressive
  4. I have to move abroad, and I can't take them
  5. I have just delivered a baby. I can't care for both of them
  6. My current pet has become old, and I think I want a puppy
  7. My pet is sick and I can't afford the medical bills to help them
  8. I don't know what I was thinking, but caring for pets isn't my thing
  9. I work 24/7 and don't have anyone else to care for my pet who's often home alone.
  10. I brought home a pet for my children, but now no one's interested in caring for them.

These are just some reasons, but there are many more which result in abandoned pets, but what if you're forced to give up your pet? What should you do then?

How about contacting a shelter and making sure that your pet will be well taken care of instead of abandoning them in the middle of nowhere hoping a good samaritan will come to your rescue? I'm not judging anyone, these are just my opinions, but then, even if you have the best intention in mind for your pet, sometimes there's not enough time.

That's the story of Chewy, a three-month-old chihuahua who was abandoned at the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.

Meet Chewy.

Chewy's mom was escaping an abusive relationship and found herself at the airport. The flight wouldn't allow her to take Chewy along, so she decided to leave him behind with a note, hoping a good samaritan would rescue him.

The heartbreaking note.

The note read:

Hi! I’m Chewy!

My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford me to get on the flight. She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart, but she has NO other option.

My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting, and he has a big knot on his head. He probably needs a vet.

I love Chewy sooo much. Please love and take care of him.

Emergency medical attention

As soon as the airport security guard found Chewy and read the note, the airport staff quickly contacted Connor and Millie’s Dog Rescue, a foster-based local non-profit center.

They knew Chewy needed emergency medical attention for head trauma.

The rescue center took Chewy and rushed him to an emergency vet clinic. For those of you who're unaware, Connor and Millie's Dog Rescue (CMDR) shelters senior and special needs dogs and gives them the TLC they require until they find their forever-loving homes.

It wasn't long before Chewy made full recovery and, thanks to people who shared his story, even found his forever-loving home.

Help your pets find help.

Abusive relationships are the worst, and they affect our pets too. Pets are often victims of domestic abuse when one of their parents is trapped in an abusive relationship.

In Summary...

It's sad, and truly heartbreaking how pets are abandoned in the middle of nowhere. Although we're happy Chewy found his forever-loving home, many pets don't and often end up stray.

When you're sure you can't care for your pets, please bring them to a no-kill shelter where they can wait for their loving family to take them home. Please don't abandon your pets.
