You can't just show up claiming a cat you assumed was dead is yours

Homeowners will start to notice stray and feral cats hanging about their properties more frequently as these cats are hunting for secure, warm homes for the winter. Cats may not only find the outdoors to be difficult, but they may also harm the environment.
There may be a disagreement over what to do with stray and feral cats in towns, with some people favoring their protection and maintenance, while others are in favor of euthanasia (humane death). The point still remains that stray and feral cats are domesticated animals, and we are directly responsible for their future.
House cats are those that are kept by a human family and may occasionally be allowed outside. But a stray cat is one that was once owned by a person but was later abandoned or misplaced.
The OP noticed that a seemingly stray cat had been following them home whenever they went on family walks. The cat is always outside, friendly with everyone, and no one has ever seen or heard of an owner.
So the OP decided to take the cat in and, after discovering the cat wasn’t neutered nor chipped, they decided to adopt the cat. Then a strange woman shows up, claiming the cat was hers with no substantial proof, but the OP wasn’t letting the cat go anytime soon.

RedditA domestic cat that has not been owned by a person and has thus become wild is referred to as a feral cat. When adopted by people, stray cats and young feral kittens may develop social skills and make terrific companions.
This is what the OP’s family has found in their new furry adopted pal, and they’re not letting it go.
