"For Toast, the cat, who was no help at all."
“A room without books is like a body without a soul.” This wonderful saying summarizes the importance of books.
Even though some people believe that modern technology will destroy books (it is a terrifying thought), they still have their appeal and their place in modern society. More importantly, they also have a future.
Anywhere from 500,000 to 1,000,000 books are published annually. However, if you include self-published authors you're looking at close to 4 million new book titles published each year.
Some sources say that, as a result of print-on-demand technology, the number of book titles has increased from 2.3 million book titles published in 2013 to approximately 4 million new books being published in 2021, with nearly half of those titles coming from self-published authors. And that’s an impressive result.
And where there are books, there are also dedications. Authors can show their appreciation by including a dedication in their books.
The dedication page is typically used by authors to acknowledge individuals who inspired their work or to express gratitude to those who helped them along the road. Some readers could even dedicate the book to the memory of a dear one.
Even though they are all heartfelt and sincere, my favorite book dedications are the witty ones. You'll be inspired to pick up a book by the reader-submitted funniest book dedications shared in this Twitter thread.
Take a look:
If you are wondering, the books with the highest numbers of sold printed copies are:
1. Don Quixote (500 million copies sold)
2. A Tale of Two Cities (200 million copies sold)
3. The Lord of the Rings (150 million copies sold)
4. The Little Prince (142 million copies sold
5. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (107 million copies sold)
6. And Then There Were None (100 million copies sold)
7. The Dream of the Red Chamber (100 million copies sold)
8. The Hobbit (100 million copies sold)
9. She: A History of Adventure (100 million copies sold)
10. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (85 million copies sold)
Religious and political doctrine books are not counted because their numbers surpass billions and many of them are not bought on the market but shared and gifted.
We are very happy to see that books are still popular.
