Some people, especially those who haven't had the taste of being an employee yet, like to think that working in retail is a great option if you want easy work. Retail jobs are often in demand in big, busy places and the description is almost always easy and very simple to do.
Most retail jobs would just require you to stand or sit there and wait for customers to come to you, or vice versa. When they come in, you tell them what the store offers, what they can choose, find out if they need help, or if they have any questions; and when they leave the store, all you have to do is thank them for checking out the place or for purchasing something, and wish them a good day.
Sounds easy, right? Well, at a first glance, it is.
Working in retail will lead you to realize that you are actually dealing with a lot of people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some are great to interact with but others...not so much.
Customers can be very rude and demanding sometimes, even as you are already trying your best to find the perfect thing for them to try on. While some others do try to be frank and honest in saying what they want and telling you how to fix something for them, others are just plain mean.
This is the time when we say that the customer is not always right, but because of the job, we have to tolerate it. Most people that worked at some point in their lives in a retail job can definitely testify to this.
However, it's not always the mean ones that come in, there are also a lot of surprisingly pleasant people that would never fail to make a retail employee's day. To prove that, take a look at this Twitter thread wherein retail employees had wholesome interactions with some customers!
