Most of the time, all your dog really needs from you is attention. They might be anything from food and water to something as simple as their favorite toy that is stuck under the couch or something entirely else.

When you give them what they want, they usually stop whining and resumes their previous activity. Though it's not always the case, many pet owners believe their dogs would rather play outside by themselves.

The short response is no; it is not appropriate to leave your dog outside alone. Dogs can get into trouble very easily when they are left alone outside.

Since they can quickly dig out from under their fence, many dogs end up lost. In addition, a lot of them unwittingly pass through backyard gates that are left open by service personnel and they might not find their way back.
